Residents of Istanbul’s Pangalti neighborhood have created a culture based on rich relationships with neighbors and shop owners alike. Many of them feel like they need to band together, and that means supporting local businesses while eschewing supermarkets and shopping malls. In return, the shop owners and workers provide exceptional products and services very unusual in the age of big business.
